What does GOTS mean?
You might have seen it on our yoga wear or on our website: GOTS-certified. But what does GOTS certification really mean?
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and is the most trusted and comprehensive certification for organic textiles worldwide. It doesn’t just look at raw materials — it reviews the entire process, from the moment the cotton is grown to the moment you slip into your yoga leggings.
GOTS guarantees that every step of production is ethical, eco-friendly, and fully transparent. No empty promises, no greenwashing — just verified facts.
Since when has Urban Goddess been GOTS-Certified?
We’ve been using GOTS-certified fabrics since 2014, so working sustainably has been part of our DNA for a long time. But in May 2023, Urban Goddess as a brand officially became GOTS-certified.
This means that from that moment on, every step — from design, production, and packaging to shipping — is carried out under GOTS supervision. Each new item comes with the official GOTS label, including a certification number and the name of our independent certifier.You can easily spot this information on each product page.
What does GOTS actually check?
GOTS has strict standards across four key areas. Sounds complicated? Don’t worry — here’s the simple version:
1. Environment
Fabrics must be made from at least 70% organic fibers (for us, it’s often 95–100%). No toxic chemicals are allowed, and everything — from water use to waste management — must be as eco-friendly as possible.
2. Social Conditions
GOTS ensures fair production. No child labor, no exploitation, only safe working conditions, fair wages, and respect for everyone involved in making your yoga wear.
3. Transparency and Traceability
Every step in the supply chain must be certified. Annual independent audits are mandatory — from the spinning mill to the final garment in your wardrobe.
4. Health and Safety
No harmful dyes, no GMOs, and no chemical finishes that could damage your skin or the planet.
