Recyling at Urban Goddess

At Urban Goddess we make all our yoga wear with respect for people and the environment. Therefore, what happens to your clothes after you are done with it is also very important to us. Urban Goddess started a collaboration with the Salvation Army. Thanks to the Salvation Army we can offer you an option to send in your old Urban Goddess yoga wear items or bring them by in our Amsterdam office. We make sure that the clothing that can still be worn will get awesome, new owners through the Salvation Army. Clothing that cannot be worn anymore will be recycled by the Salvation Army to create new fabrics to make new products. To thank you for helping us to make this world a better and cleaner place, we will give you a 20% discount on your next order in exchange for the clothing you send in to recycle. This way, you can enjoy a new yoga outfit while your old clothes will go to the people who really need it.

Who is the Salvation Army?

The Salvation Army is a worldwide organization which was founded in 1865 by William Booth under a different name. In 1878 this became the Salvation Army. They are present in 126 countries and on a daily basis, they help thousands of people. For example alcohol- and drug addicts, homeless people, prostitutes and other people who are having a hard time taking care of themselves.
The Salvation Army opened really hip and cool secondhand shops in several cities in the Netherlands called ReShare Stores. In these stores, you can buy really nice clothes and other items (like for example Urban Goddess clothing).

But that is not all!

The Salvation Army shares our passion for sustainability and our mission to make the world a better place for people and the environment. By reusing clothes and re-selling them in their ReShare stores, they do not only make sure less clothing disappears in the incinerator, but also that there are nearly three hundred workplaces for people on the sidelines of our society.
Because less clothing gets lost in the incinerator, they also prevent CO2 emissions and many litres of water (1 kg of cotton stands for 17,000 litres of water) and raw materials will be saved. They are also looking for opportunities to make the process of clothing collection and processing even better. For example, the FiberSort machine, made possible by the Salvation Army, is the first machine to separate pure raw materials and will be used starting next year (2018). From those separated pure raw materials new products can be made. Very good for the environment, because the more textiles we can reuse, the less new raw materials need to be produced.
